When reporting a problem, please include:
- Operating system and version (e.g. macOS 15.2, Windows 11 24H2)
- App version
- What happened, steps to reproduce, and the file types involved
- If useful, a diagnostics file exported from Settings — it is saved on your device only and never sent automatically. Please review it before sending.
You do not need to send original documents. If a sample is essential, please send one with personal or sensitive content removed. Information you send is handled under our Privacy Policy.
Installation and requirements
Where can I get DocSleuth?
DocSleuth will be distributed through the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store and is currently being prepared for release. We will announce availability on this site.
What are the macOS requirements?
macOS 13.4 or later on an Apple Silicon (M-series) Mac. Intel Macs are not supported.
What are the Windows requirements?
64-bit (x64) Windows 10 version 1809 (build 17763) or later, or Windows 11.
Do I need an internet connection?
Not for keyword search or OCR (on Windows, however, the OS language pack for OCR, e.g. Korean, must be installed, and Windows may download it). An internet connection is needed only for the first download of the semantic-search model (about 130–210 MB).
Will it work on a computer with little memory?
The app checks available memory and selects a suitable semantic-search model automatically. If memory is very limited it recommends disabling semantic search; keyword search still works normally.
Using DocSleuth
How do I add folders?
Choose a folder to index in the app and DocSleuth reads the supported documents inside it. On the Mac App Store version, macOS security rules limit access to folders you select yourself.
What are the Free-tier limits?
5,000 indexed files and 100 OCR pages per month. All search features, including semantic search, are available in the Free tier.
Some documents don’t show up in search.
Password-protected documents are not read. Scanned documents and images are processed within the OCR limit, and damaged or unusual files may yield limited text. Tell us the file type and situation and we will look into it.
Can I turn off semantic search?
Yes. Choose “disable semantic search” in the semantic-search settings; the model will not be downloaded and only keyword search is used.
Data location and deletion
DocSleuth stores its index, settings and logs in the app data folder on your computer. Original documents are not copied there, and deleting app data leaves your documents untouched.
Where data is stored
| Edition | App data folder |
|---|---|
| macOS (Mac App Store) | Data/Library/Application Support/com.jinsongtech.findoc inside ~/Library/Containers/com.jinsongtech.findoc/ |
| Windows (Microsoft Store) | The package data location managed by Windows for the app (com.jinsongtech.findoc under the user app-data folder) |
This folder holds the index database, search index, semantic-search model files, logs and diagnostics.
To delete all data and uninstall
- If you registered an external embedding API, delete that model in Settings first; this also removes its API key from the operating system’s secure store.
- Quit the app.
- macOS: move DocSleuth from Applications to the Trash, then in Finder choose Go > Go to Folder, open
~/Library/Containers/com.jinsongtech.findoc, delete the folder and empty the Trash. - Windows: uninstall DocSleuth from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Microsoft Store apps remove their app data when uninstalled. To clear data but keep the app, use “Reset” in DocSleuth’s advanced options.
- To check for remaining API keys, look in Keychain Access (macOS) or Credential Manager (Windows) for an entry whose name contains
com.jinsongtech.findoc.embedding-api(it may be prefixed with the model ID) and delete it.
We do not receive this data and cannot delete it for you; please use the steps above. To have support emails you sent us deleted, email us.
External connections
When does the app connect to the internet?
Only when it first downloads a semantic-search model from Hugging Face, when you add a Hugging Face model yourself, and when you use an external embedding API you registered. Nothing is sent to JinsongTech servers. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I revoke consent for an external embedding API?
Revoke consent for the server on the custom embedding screen in Settings; transfers stop immediately. Using it again requires new approval in an operating-system dialog. Deleting the registered model also deletes its stored API key.
What is sent to an external API?
Text excerpts extracted from indexed documents, your search queries, sample text used to test the connection when registering, and the API key for authentication, all sent to the server you specified. Check that server operator’s policies for how data is retained.
Purchases and refunds
How do I buy Pro?
Paid sales have not started. When they do, Pro will be available as an in-app purchase through the App Store or Microsoft Store.
Do I need to buy Pro again on a new computer?
Use the app’s restore-purchase function on a device signed in to the same store account. Purchases may not transfer between the Apple and Microsoft stores.
How do I get a refund?
Request it through the store you bought from. See the Refund Policy for details.
